O Zespole

The idea of establishing Classic Jazz Quartet was born in the year 2000 which was the 250th anniversary of the death of J. S. Bach. At that time Lidia Sieczkowska – flutist – came with an idea to play J. S. Bach pieces in jazz arrangements along with pianist Piotr Kałużny. First concert was performed in trio with bassist Zbigniew Wrombel. However, soon afterwards musicians have decided to bring more energy into the band and that is how percussionist Krzysztof Przybyłowicz joined the group. The repertoire ideas of Lidia Sieczkowska were adopted to the group’s music by the arranger Piotr Kałużny. Thus, interesting music impressions were born, for which the basis was created on the main motives of J. S. Bach compositions enriched with jazz segments that use the character and the construction of the prototypes without excessively enlarge improvisations, however with the maintenance of the formal discipline. At the beginning only Bach arrangements were performed, but soon afterwards it appeared that inclusion of the arrangements of other composers like Chopin, Faure, Debussy and sixteenth century Le Roy makes a great contribution to the concerts.

Classic Jazz Quartet is formed by excellent Polish musicians who have played in Europe, the USA, Canada and Asia, cooperating with such groups as String Connection, Walk Away and musicians like Michał Urbaniak, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Andrzej Jagodziński, Natalii Cole, John Blake, Jahn Hick, Deborah Brown, Jerzy Maskymiuk, Peter Lukas Graf and Andrey Boreyko.

The CJQ interpretations of classic music masters’ were presented at ‘Chopiniana’ Festival in Warsaw and J. S. Bach Festival in Leipzig. During Polish Week in Paris CJQ took part in a Chopin Project: 12 concerts, 12 views and later performed also during XIII International Violin Competiton of Henryk Wieniawski in Posen.

In September 2006 in occasion of XIII International Violin Competiton of Henryk Wieniawski in Posen CJQ recorded third album with the interpretations of H. Wieniawski music. Special guest of the album was the violinist Grzegorz Strzelczyk.
